A fixed place for toothbrushes that children can reach themselves

In a busy family bathroom, toothbrushes can end up everywhere: on the edge of the sink, in the wrong cup, or on the floor. When several people share the room, nobody is quite sure which brush is whose. This leads to confusion and small daily arguments. A fixed place for each brush solves the problem at once. It also gives children a chance to manage a small task on their own.

Choose a holder or a set of separate cups at a height that even the youngest child can reach. A stand on the sink works well, as does a strip on the wall with individual slots. Each person has their own space, marked with a colour or a small picture. Children who cannot read yet can recognise their symbol immediately. Everything is then within reach and in plain sight.

Make it part of the routine

The habit is easier to build when it is linked to something that already happens. After brushing, the toothbrush goes back into its slot, and the tube is closed and put away. Children learn to do the same, and soon it needs no reminding. A little praise at the beginning helps a great deal. The routine becomes second nature after a few weeks.

Keep only what is needed near the sink. One tube of toothpaste per person or per family is plenty. Spares can wait in a cupboard or drawer. This leaves the surface clear and makes wiping it much quicker. A small dish can hold floss and other little things that would otherwise wander.

Toothbrushes should stand so that they can dry and not touch one another. Wet brushes lying in a closed pot stay damp for far too long. An open holder lets the air circulate around them. When a brush is worn out, replace it and throw the old one away immediately. That way there are never mysterious extra brushes lying around.

A settled place for toothbrushes makes mornings smoother, especially when everyone is in a hurry. Nobody needs to hunt for their brush, and the sink stays clean. Children take pride in a spot that is theirs alone. Guests appreciate a spare brush kept in a labelled place. Small changes like this bring order to a busy bathroom.
